The artist, who was born in Leipzig, received his training at the Badische Kunstschule in Karlsruhe and the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. In the history of art he is one of the most important representatives of symbolism. Early on in the bookplate movement he was considered a style icon, having created over 60 sheets, a few for bookplate collectors, most of them for friends and acquaintances. - Smallest assembly remnants on the back.
